The people will soon be able to apply for their passport through their smartphones. An Android App is already in its final stage for its launching in the market that will have the function to allow applicants to apply for passport just by using this app. This app called 'mPassport Seva' developed by the Ministry of External Affairs.
This app can be downloaded from www.passportindia.gov.in. This app was already developed in March but now it will come with more services including passport application status, tracking, locating the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and general information on various steps involved in obtaining a passport.
People will able to pay the passport fee through online payment modes. When they once fill the online applications, then they need to go to nearby PSK and you need to inform the workers of PSK about your 'application reference number' (ARN) which you will receive during online registration. The Chief Passport Officer Muktesh Kumar said that this new passport service will soon be available throughout the country in few months.
The passport seva project has been declared as winner for e-India public choice award 2013 under government to citizen service category.
